Z'mer could see that Midneal was thinking about something - the signs were very subtle, but one tends to pick up on things like that over time. Probably some introspection or something like that, and Z'mer left him to his thoughts for a moment.
He wondered why Fin was chirping until he heard another voice being way too logical for his current frame of mind even though he knew the guy was just joking. "Yeah, but having something cold to drink in the bath makes it so much more enjoyable," he replied before looking up at the newcomer.
He was powerfully built, though still sooty from whatever work he had been doing. His build suggested smithcrafter and his general attire and the soot confirmed the assessment. He glanced at Midneal before answering. "Welcome Jassen, I'm Z'mer. I don't mind if my friend doesn't..." He stopped talking because the young smith then put his foot in it and he wasn't sure how to respond to that. He was certain that Midneal got the "miss" a lot because of his looks but still, it had to rankle a lot.
He nodded over to Midneal to show that the lizard is his, even as the other young man answered. Z'mer was really at a loss how to proceed - he wanted to defend Midneal but he wasn't sure how to do it without making the younger man feel slighted. He decided to let Midneal deal with it, but he'd be sure to take Jassen aside and have a little talk to him about making assumptions.

"Midnael... Zmer. It's a pleasure to meet you both - I'm not good with names, so I apologize if I forget... and I'm sorry for interrupting, please, continue your conversation." He gave them a brighter smile now, seeming more comfortable with introductions out of the way.
The smith set his clean things by the bath and discarded his soot-covered outfit, sliding into the bath with a groan. The whole body taboo still got to him from time to time, but he'd grown used to the baths at Telgar, and after a hard day's work, his desire for a clean easily overcame any residual reservations. Nonetheless, he kept himself away from the other two, as he - apparently, according to previous bathers - had an annoying tendency to splash too much. As he washed, he listened to the two talking, always curious about people as he was.

Fin eyed the smith warily, a multitude of colors whirling there before she turned away from him. She chirped again, this time directly at Midnael, before hopping from the pool with a flick of her tail. Midnael nodded to the fire lizard, "Yes bossy. Ah, she seems to think it's time to go, she seems to think it's time to go, and she'll probably want to be oiled..."
He climbed from the pool, water running down his thinly muscled, and male body before grabbing a cloth to dry off with. Fin hopped up onto the bench, once again watching the smith. The tiny green did not seem to know what to make of him, but her eyes settled more on a red tone than any other. Midnael noticed her and rolled his eyes and dropped his drying cloth over the silly thing who screeched angrily at him as he reached for another cloth for his hair.

Z'mer smiled. "It's OK, you will get to know everybody and learn in time. Fort wasn't built in one day, as the saying goes." He quietly observed as Jassen got into the water before closing his eyes again and relaxing in the warm water.
He heard the lizard chirping and someone moving before Midneal announced that he was getting out - the lizard provided a convenient excuse if nothing else. "Well, Midneal and green Finiky, it was nice meeting you, I will see you around the Weyr - probably help out with a few training classes later on when you're weyrlings. If A'zael will let me near you lot." He grinned and sipped the lukewarm wine.
He laughed outright when Midneal dropped the towel on the green firelizard. "Payback of some sort?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
Z'mer turned his attention to the newcomer. "So, Jassen, where are you from?" he asked. He was enjoying the water way too much to be thinking of getting out just yet.

[[Sorry for the delayed response >.<]]
Jassen blinked, flushing in embarrassment as the realization that Midnael was a man hit him. How stupid could he get? Shards, he hadn't been talking to the men for more than a minute and already he'd no doubt offended one of them beyond--
Zmer's question snapped him out of the thought, and he stammered out, "J-just a small cothold, near Telgar... Midnael, I'm sorry, I, uh, didn't realize..." He stuttered to a halt, absolutely lacking any idea of how to apologize for a faux pas of that magnitude (and failing to realize that Midnael had no doubt dealt with it before).

Midnael shrugged, "I'm not the one who's mad at you," he lifted the cloth off of Fin who had been angrily thrashing beneath it, "I'm rather used to it at this point. At least you didn't know my mother so you can't mistake me for her."
The boy started pulling on the clean clothes he had brought down with him. The main disappointment had been more from the fact that, being in a new place, more people were going to be making that mistake. Fin had sensed that disappointment and seemed to be debating if she should make the smith boy pay for it or not. She sent a questioning image of her flying at Jassen's face, to which Midnael shook his head and braided his hair back out of the way until he could fix it in front of a mirror later.
He picked up the cloths he had used and deposited them in a hamper for such things before picking up his things, "It has been good to meet you both, and talking to you Z'mer." Fin flew up to his shoulder, hissing at Jassen.

Z'mer watched Jassen's reactions and decided that he didn't need to say anything. The boy realized his error and didn't need anybody else to chastise him for it. He watched the firelizard's reaction and smiled. "You don't want a firelizard mad at you," he said mildly. He heard the tone beneath the words about Midneal's mother.
"Goodbye Midneal, it was nice talking to you - I'll see you around the Weyr and I'm looking forward to Hatching. I'm certain you'll Impress." He watched as the pair left after Jassen's apology and waited a moment.
"Oh, I'll probably know where it is. I'm from Telgar Weyr before I came to Western." He closed his eyes and relaxed. "You werere a smithcraft apprentice before being Searched?" he asked, having noticed the burn scarred apron and general sootiness of his new bathing companion.
