Iroth felt more than heard the scuffle behind her as two or more males tried their luck at that time to catch her. She laughed to herself if they thought it would be that easy. Since she had been steadily climbing since starting the flight, she knew she could drop a bit to compensate for the hasty males. It took a quick look over her shoulder to see Novath and Navith both making a go at it and she screeched derisively as she suddenly folded her wings and dropped like a stone, eluding their reaching talons.
She didn’t fall far, just enough to make any immediate attempt pointless. She snapped her wings open and again banked out of the way of any that might have tried to follow. She winged strongly, again heading higher, looking around her for the males now steadily becoming less and less around her. She wasn’t sure where Amoneth was, but he didn’t seem to be a threat right then.
Amoneth had judged his angle of flight wrong and by the time he got turned around, Iroth had done her direction changes a few times and he was woefully out of range to catch up to her. He sent a wordless regret to Z’mer while still trying to catch up and hopefully catch her. Z’mer’s mind wasn’t as lust-fogged anymore since Amoneth had realized he would probably lose, even though he wasn’t giving up.

Novath veered back around quickly when she dropped roaring in frustration at Navith. Stupid Blue, he might have actually gotten away unnoticed if he hadn't made a go for it at the same time. Still, he was very impressed by Iroth's quick maneuver.
E'rra couldn't help but chuckle at his dragon's frustration. He meant what he had told Garrett before, he didn't care what happened today, it didn't matter in the long run. Normally he as clouded by lust as the other riders during mating flights. Maybe because he was so opposed to Novath's constant desire to chase those with female riders. You'd think, considering who Iroth's rider was, he'd be more consumed by the chase. For some reason though he just felt calm, and Novath quickly recovered from his frustration at being eluded as a result.
Through the bond he felt Novath glide back into place behind Iroth. He didn't know where Sabath was, and was too preoccupied really to care at the moment, something E'rra tried to caution him against only to be shot down, I know what I'm doing. She would be expecting him to try again now, so he waited once more, focusing more on keeping up at this point.

Sh'mal sat near the rider of the other fallen blue. The dragon's wing looked a lot worse than it was, one of the healers had said. As soon as they had assured Sh'mal that Ligeth's wound wasn't serious and began treating it, he had gone over to watch the flight. He peered into the sky, surprised that it hadn't ended yet. I knew Greys had wonderful endurance, but never this much. Though, we've never really stuck around for a Grey or Gold mating flight, have we? Ligeth rumbled in agreement. His lust had dropped considerably since his exit, and now the blue gazed at the flight with clear, if slightly orange, eyes. Both took pleasure in the fact that Sabath had fallen further behind. Another black (E'rra's Novath, Ligeth supplied) and, surprisingly, blue Navith were near the front, although Navith appeared to be tiring. It seemed like Iroth's movements had worked to shake the rest of the group. So, what now, Mine? Sh'mal smiled broadly. Now, we find out if any of your 'lovely greens' feel like keeping you company while you heal. Who knows? Their rider may actually be able to tolerate me!

Triumph roared through Rayth when he saw Iroth evade both Novath and Navith. Had he been a little less mature, a little less polite, he may have stuck his tongue out at the other black as he continued to curve around toward Iroth. Though lovely Iroth's marvelous flying had gained Rayth some breathing room, he didn't slow his break-neck speed. Novath may have failed on this attempt, but he was still in the running. So, too, was Sabath, who had taken another blue out of the flight. Amoneth was still trying, but he was hopefully far enough out not to be a threat.
In Garrett's weyr, D'ak watched through narrowed eyes as a few of the riders left - the riders of the two injured blues, and those whose dragons had dropped out. There were fewer dragons left who could outmatch Rayth in speed, but D'ak could feel the sting of laboring wings and breath, and knew that Rayth would have to make his move quickly if he were going to catch Iroth. The dragon sent his wordless agreement.
He followed as Iroth ascended once again after having dove to escape Novath aqnd Navith. Be ready, D'ak warned, for the arc Rayth was flying would hopefully intercept Iroth soon. Rayth didn't reply, but the feeling he projected back to D'ak was something like an amused 'leave the flying to me'.
Still, as he banked a bit to adjust his course, Rayth did sharpen his focus completely on Iroth. He was still far enough to the side of the main group that hopefully no one could sneak close unnoticed and cut him off or, in Sabath's case, knock him out of the runnings completely. Rayth being Rayth, he couldn't help but throw in a corkscrew and a few fancy sideslips that sacrificed some height, but left him only a little way beneath Iroth's own height.
Rayth, now! D'ak had seen the opportunity through Rayth's eyes, and the black dragon was quick to take advantage of it. They were close enough now that if Iroth remained distracted... looking for someone... than they might be able to end the flight before they had to drop out. Stubborn as he was, Rayth could ignore the quivering of his muscles a while longer yet, but...
D'ak forced himself into impassiveness, knowing that if his expression gave away Rayth's attempt now, another rider could alert his dragon to be on the lookout and block him.
Rayth banked sharply toward the gray, hoping her attention would remain on whoever she was looking for. A quick sideslip brought him under her, as he flipped upside down and made a grab for her. If he missed, chances were good that he'd end up in the middle of the trailing group of males, and it would be a fight to break free again if he even had the endurance left. If he caught her, well...

Navith screeched his frustration as Iroth eluded him and let himself fall some distance before lazily spreading his wings, now screaming at him with exhaustion. He glided more than flew to his ledge and collapsed there, defeated. In Garrett’s weyr A’zael cursed softly, Navith’s frustration the last thing he felt as A’zael-Navith before the flight-induced bond was severed. He would only cause trouble if he stayed here, so he turned and made his way instinctively to the lower caverns to see if anyone down there might like to help him with his current… state of mind. At least Navith hadn’t been hurt… more than the wing strain anyway.
Roth watched as Iroth evaded both Navith and Novath and decided to make his move, his wings wouldn’t hold out much longer, but even as he was closing in and ready to reach for the Grey she banked away and he overshot her. He found himself some distance below the rest and stared in dismay at the distance. He was done. Just catching up would take all he had left in him. He turned instead toward his weyr, winging away with a few tired strokes and making his way in to his couch, curling up and thinking he would definitely catch her next time….
Nyx gave a deep sigh of relief when Roth dropped out and their bond dissolved back to normal. She wished he would just stick to the Greens, but her dragon was as horny as she was and felt the need to chase every female that rose, barring Orlaith, or any other Gold she supposed. Still, she realized she was rather stranded from her own weyr without asking for a ride… then again maybe she should do just that… see if a pretty Greenrider would lend her a hand… and maybe stay with her a while…. She promptly left to do just that.
Most of the Blues and Burgundies had fallen away now. Sabath was making good headway through the steadily shrinking throng of suitors when Rayth made his move. He was already too close for Sabath’s liking when he finally noticed him approaching her. He roared his fury, pushing himself further, wings working frantically and any dragon left in his way knew better than to stay there. He heard M’kal’s reprimand even as his neck stretched to aim a ripping bite at a nearby Brown. Roaring once more, he pushed ahead, closing the distance between himself and Iroth but fearing he would not be able to reach her in time….

She was looking around for Sabath, hoping that all this competition would make him more competitive and work harder to win her. In previous flights there weren’t that many others that offered real competition after all.
She didn’t see Rayth until he was already making his move. She couldn’t drop out of the way again since he was below her and she couldn’t bank away easily, his big wings would foul with hers. She was pleased with his maneuver and she was pleased that he had caught her. He was the best of this Flight in her opinion. She let his claws catch hers, front and back and she then urged him to fly higher still with her before they became entwined in the mating ‘dance’.
-----
Garrett felt a stab of regret that it wasn’t Novath that had caught Iroth, but it was gone again before he could dwell on it. He blindly reached for D’ak, all the others in the weyr melting from his consciousness, the man the only thing his thoughts would focus on. He pulled D’ak into a rough kiss, hands already pulling at clothing that impeded his ultimate goal. He had enough presence of mind to pull the blackrider into his bedroom and falling onto the bed, pulling at clothing that was in the way. The moment that Iroth and Rayth joined exploded in his mind and all rational thought was gone.

As Rayth's claws gently closed over Iroth's - or, as was the case with his crippled foreclaw, cupped them - D'ak allowed himself to be pulled by Garrett into a kiss. With what there was of D'ak in his own mind, he was in a way grateful that Garrett was male, and already in his own relationship - he wouldn't care when they parted ways after the flight. The sting of sore muscles when Rayth gladly pushed his tired wings to send them soaring higher as Iroth clearly wished was barely an undercurrent to the feelings that rushed through him from Rayth and swept him away. He responded with surprising docility as Garrett pulled him into his bedroom, though by that time, coherent thought had shattered.
