"You don't have to worry about being grateful," Z'mer said with a toothy grin. He was enjoying the verbal sparring with Pala, it made him practice his skills.
"Well, if a dragon speaks to you again, other than your own of course, see if you can determine how they sound to you. Of course its rare enough occurrence. I was surprised when Amoneth spoke to you. He's usually not that chatty - he must've been really worried about that cut. He's OK with blood everywhere, just not any on me, especially mine." He sounded fond when he made that observation.
He listened as she spoke of her sister. He could see the affection and love but also a tinge of jealousy too. He wondered if her little sister was prettier, or if Pala only thought so because of some imagined fault of her own. "Well, if you want to go visit your family, just ask and I'm sure someone can take you. It's not like we're overrun with Thread or so completely swamped with chores that a few hours can be spent with family."
Z'mer dropped his shoulders in a look of defeat. "Oh, well. I guess I could only milk the sympathy for so long, huh? But until my foot is healed I don't intend to do anything other than rest up and make sure it heals properly."

"Really? Navith spoke to Mya and I when we arrived but I think he only did so because he knew the Weyr needed more candidates. Before that I was never really around dragons much as I said..." she laughed, "I can't imagine any dragon likes their rider to be bleeding, from what I hear the bond there is strong and it probably pains them to know their rider is in pain. You would feel the same if he were injured would you not?"
"It's not really everyone else being busy that's the problem, it's me. I'm either working here or doing candidate duties," she shrugged, "It happens, and besides, apparently my parents say I need to give her some space and stop protecting her from everything. They're probably right but she's a little naive so she tends to land herself in situations..."
"I should probably let you get to that rest, fine healer I am keeping you up when you should be abed. Just make sure you do exactly that, I don't want you injuring it again or causing it to scar up wrong. Jocene tells me that poorly healed injuries can cause problems between."

"I think Searchdragons sometimes speak to Candidates they are Searching, but I'm not too familiar with that side of things. My father's dragon never spoke to me, even if he was the one that Searched me. The only dragon that has ever spoken to me is Amoneth."
You know we only speak to our riders and very seldom to others. I felt it necessary to speak to her just now. I like your mind more - it feels strange to me to speak to others, so I don't if I can help it. Amoneth's tone was almost lecturing. Z'mer had a fond little smile and slightly unfocused eyes of a rider talking to his dragon, but he quickly refocused on Pala.
"Amoneth says that he doesn't speak to other humans unless it's necessary, it feels strange to him to do so," he explained.
"I see - protective older sibling instincts kick in when you least expect it, huh?" he asked. "But I think your parents are correct, she needs to make her own mistakes. Hopefully its ones that she can get out of again."
Z'mer smiled. "You are a fine healer and I was resting my painful injury before going to have lunch and a nap. Thanks for this - I'll come back in a week for you to check on it, OK?" He started limping for the exit. "And you had better take care of that hand of yours," he said with a slight frown in her direction.
