Here at Western Weyrhold we of course have the original six canon colors: Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue, Green, and White along with three new colors: Grey, Black, and Burgundy. As always, B colors are males (B for BOY) and G colors are females (G for GIRL).

Gold/Queen Golds, often referred to as ‘Queens’, are the largest and rarest Dragons (barring Whites on rarity). Less than 1% of all Dragons are Gold. A Gold egg is always easy to pick out, generally being larger than the others and the shell is always slightly gold and shiny itself. They are the main egg layers, the only ones that can lay a clutch containing every Color, and no Dragon would ever disobey a direct order from a Gold. Golds are incapable of chewing firestone to produce flame, but all Pernese believe that chewing firestone makes a female sterile and so they are not even allowed to try. Their riders instead use flamethrowers at low altitudes to catch Thread that gets through the rest of the ranks. The Weyrleader is determined by whatever Dragon catches the senior Gold. Whenever a Gold rises, Bronzes and Blacks are unable to leave her, so if any Bronzerider or Blackriders would rather avoid his(or her) dragon catching a certain Gold he needs to leave the Weyr before she wakes and begins to blood.
Color Range: From a light, creamy sort of off-white to a deep, burnished, almost red-gold, always with a metallic shine. Size Range: 130-150 feet Impresses To: Heterosexual Females, feminine Bisexual Females rarely. Rises: For the first time after 2 Turns of age, once every 2 Turns during an interval, once a Turn during a Pass. Caught By: Bronzes, uncommonly Blacks, rarely Browns. Clutches: Gold x Bronze – maximum of 25 eggs with up to 1 Gold (rare), 3 Bronzes (1 or 2 more commonly), 2 Greys (1 more commonly, if at all), 4 Blacks (2 or 3 more commonly), the rest Browns, Burgundies, Blues, and Greens. Gold x Black – maximum of 20 eggs with up to 1 Gold (VERY rare), 1 Bronze (rare), 1 Grey ( VERY rare), 3 Blacks (1 or 2 more commonly), Browns, Burgundies, Blues, and Greens. Gold x Brown – maximum of 15 eggs with up to 1 Bronze (VERY rare), 2 Blacks (1 more commonly), the rest Browns, Burgundies, Blues, and Greens.
Bronze Bronzes are the largest males and comprise roughly 3% of all Dragons. They are generally the ones to mate with Golds and are most often the leaders of the Weyrs and fighting wings. They have the most stamina and are able to last a full Threadfall easily. Bronze eggs can often be guessed by unique markings on the shells, but not always. All dragons (except Golds) will obey a direct order from a Bronze.
Color Range: From a pale greenish-gold to a burnt, rusty orange and sometimes even a coppery-reddish, always with a metallic shine. Size Range: 115-135 feet Impresses To: Heterosexual Males, masculine Bisexual Males rarely. Chases: For the first time after 2 Turns. Catches: Greys and Golds, sometimes Greens.
Grey Greys are a more recent color created by the mystery epidemic at the end of the 9th Pass. It is thought that they are mutated Golds, stunted and a dull silver in color. They are more streamlined and agile than Golds, generally very skinny and athletic. Greys are something of a mix between Golds and Greens, able to last a full Threadfall but with much more maneuverability. They make up about 2% of the Dragon population and are able to clutch. Grey eggs have a slight silver sheen to them and so, like Golds, you can tell right away if there is a Grey in a recently laid clutch. Like Golds, they are unable to chew firestone to produce flame, or so it is assumed as no one is willing to risk sterilizing them by allowing them to try. They fly in the Queen’s wing, their riders using flamethrowers to help sear Thread that was missed by higher flying Dragons.
There was once a question of whether Greys could replace Golds and their riders rise to the rank of Senior Weyrwoman, but as Greys cannot produce Golds and don’t produce Bronzes or other Greys all that often, as well as the fact that they will obey Golds and Bronzes without question, the answer was a decisive no. If there was ever to be no Gold in a Weyr, for some reason or another, a Grey might be allowed to take her place until a Gold could be transferred, but no more than that. Regardless, Greyriders still hold a great deal of respect and their riders are still considered Junior Weyrwomen, they just can never truly rise to Senior like their Goldrider peers. While other colors ‘grey’ as a sign of illness, Greys ‘green’ instead. Even so, it can be a little hard to notice if a Grey is in ill health unless she tells you outright. All dragons (except Golds and Bronzes) will obey a direct order from a Grey.
Greys do not elicit quite the same reaction in Bronzes and Blacks as Golds do in that they are not compelled to chase as much and some can resist the temptation all together without leaving the Weyr, but once the Flight has truly started, most still feel a compulsion to chase that is hard to resist and this compulsion extends to Browns as well. As mothers, Greys are a bit more laidback when it comes to those besides their rider approaching their eggs and generally have little problem with it, not being quite as protective of them. She might even leave her clutch for short periods of time whereas Golds will refuse to leave their clutch until it has hatched. A Grey that loses her rider will not think twice about going between and leaving her clutch behind. Greys will never rise at the same time as a Gold, though they might rise as close as a sevenday before or after. Greys are not picky and are willing to share hatching sands with other Greys and Golds, but most Golds will not allow a Grey to share their hatching sands and other arrangements for the Grey's clutch might need to be made.
Color Range: From a bright, pale silver to a smoky grey, they seem to have a slight sheen to them, not quite metallic like a Gold or Bronze, it can only be seen in just the right light. Size Range: 110-120 feet Impresses To: Heterosexual or Bisexual Females, Homosexual Females rarely, feminine Homosexual Males VERY rarely. Rises: For the first time after 1 3/4 Turns of age, once every Turn during an interval, twice a Turn during a Pass. Caught By: Bronzes, Blacks, Browns, uncommonly Burgundies, rarely Blues. Clutches: Grey x Bronze – maximum of 15 eggs with up to 1 Bronze, 1 Grey (rare), 2 Blacks (1 more commonly), the rest Browns, Burgundies, Blues, and Greens. Grey x Black – maximum of 12 eggs with up to 1 Bronze (rare), 1 Grey (VERY rare), 1 Black, the rest Browns, Burgundies, Blues, and Greens. Grey x Brown – maximum of 10 eggs with up to 1 Bronze (VERY rare), 1 Black (rare), the rest Browns, Burgundies, Blues, and Greens. Grey x Burgundy – maximum of 8 eggs with up to 1 Black (VERY rare), 1 Brown, 1 Burgundy, the rest Blues, and Greens. Grey x Blue – maximum of 6 eggs with up to 1 Brown or 1 Burgundy, the rest Blues and Greens.
Black Blacks are another color created by the epidemic. It is thought that they are mutated Bronzes, stunted and a dark black in color. Like Greys, they are more streamlined than their Bronze counterparts and much more agile and skinny. They can last a full Threadfall easily and their maneuverability will be quite the asset when Thread starts falling again. They make up roughly 5% of the Dragon population and chase Golds alongside Bronzes. It is not uncommon for a Black to actually catch a Gold, and so Blackriders have a good chance at becoming Weyrleader. They are also commonly wingleaders and wingseconds. Like Bronzes, Black eggs sometimes have unique markings on them, but not always. Browns, Burgundies, Blues, and Greens will all obey a direct order from a Black.
Color Range: Blacks have the smallest color range, generally simply a jet black, but can be as light as a very dark, coal grey. Like Greys, they have a bit of a sheen to them in the right light. Size Range: 105-115 feet Impresses To: Heterosexual or Bisexual Males, Homosexual Males rarely, masculine Homosexual Females VERY rarely. Chases: For the first time after 1 3/4 Turns. Catches: Greens and Greys, sometimes Golds.
Brown Browns are the final males that are able to chase Golds even though it is very rare for them to actually catch one. They have a better chance of fathering clutches with the Greys. Browns make up about 9% of the Dragon population. Most can last a full Threadfall easily but they are generally less maneuverable than Blues and Blacks, more along the lines of big, sturdy Bronzes. Browns can lead Wings, but it is rare, and they are more often Wingseconds. Brownriders also have a small chance at becoming Weyrleader. Blues and Greens will always obey a direct order from a Brown.
Color Range: From a light tan-ish to a rich reddish mahogany to a dark chocolate. Size Range: 100-120 feet Impresses To: Heterosexual or Bisexual Males, Homosexual Males rarely, Homosexual Females VERY rarely. Chases: For the first time after 1 1/2 Turns. Catches: mostly Greens, sometimes Greys, Golds VERY rarely.
Burgundy Burgundies are the final new color created by the epidemic. It is thought that they are mutated Browns, stunted and reddish in color. Like Greys and Blacks, they are more streamlined and agile than their Brown counterparts and are generally very skinny. They can usually last a Full Threadfall, but may be quite tired afterward. They make up roughly 11% of the Dragon population. Despite the widely accepted theory that Burgundies are mutated Browns, they are still considered ‘lesser’ colors along with Blues and Greens, probably because they don’t chase Golds, like Blues, and have no chance at a Weyrleader position. Burgundies can be Wingleaders, but it is very rare and if they have rank in a wing it’s probably as a Wingsecond. Some of them seem to have Searchdragon talents like Blues and Greens as well, though it is not as common in them. Strangely enough, though Burgundies are male, they seem to prefer females for their riders, rarely ever bonding to men of any orientation. Like Blueriders, Burgundyriders often take up weyrlingmaster or candidate master positions. Greens will obey a direct order from a Burgundy.
Color Range: From a bright, fiery, red-orange to a deep, dark, bloody crimson to an almost purple maroon. Size Range: 95-105 feet Impresses To: Homosexual or Bisexual Females, uncommonly Heterosexual Females, Males rarely. Chases: For the first time after 1 1/4 Turns. Catches: mostly Greens, Greys rarely.
Blue Blue Dragons are the smallest males and make up about 25% of the Dragon population. They are generally quite agile and some can last a full Threadfall, but those that can are exhausted afterward. They generally only chase and catch Greens, but with Greys in the mix they sometimes try their luck there as well. Many Blues make excellent Searchdragons and Blueriders often take up positions as werylingmasters or candidate masters.
Color Range: From a bright icy cyan to a soft indigo to a dark navy. Size Range: 85-105 feet Impresses To: All Males, masculine Homosexual and Bisexual Females rarely. Chases: For the first time after 1 Turn. Catches: mostly Greens, Greys VERY rarely.
Green Greens are the most common color and make up about 45% of the Dragon population. Unlike Golds and Greys they are unable to clutch, but they can chew firestone and flame Thread. They are the fastest and most agile dragons but lack the endurance to last a full Threadfall and so a reserve force of Greens is kept handy for when the first set tires. Greens generally make good Searchdragons and Greenriders often take up positions as assistant weyrlingmasters and candidate masters.
Color Range: From a pale wintry green to a bright lime to a rich grass to a dark foresty hunter green. Size Range: 70-90 feet Impresses To: All Females, Homosexual and Bisexual Males, Heterosexual Males rarely. Rises: For the first time after 1 Turn of age, twice a Turn during an interval, three or four times a Turn during a Pass. Caught By: Blues, Burgundies, Blacks, sometimes Browns, Bronzes rarely Clutches: Does not clutch.
White Whites are even rarer than Golds and make up less than 1% of the Dragon population. They have become a bit more common since the epidemic. Something about the disease actually made Whites healthier, their egg shells thinner so they can break out of their eggs themselves rather than having to be helped. They have the ability to intuitively know where and when they are. Whites have much longer memories and are more intelligent than other colors. They are also exceptionally friendly with other dragons, humans besides their rider, firelizards, and even whers. Whites do not have the stamina to fly for long during Threadfall, but they can chew firestone and flame. Whites do not seem to have to obey any orders from any of the other colors, nor can they issue orders that are sure to be obeyed.
Color Range: White with very light, pale patches of the other colors hinting through. Size Range: 50 feet Impresses To: Anyone. Rises/Chases: Whites have no gender and do not rise or chase.

Color Limitations You will only ever be allowed to play ONE clutching female Dragon (be it Gold or Grey) and normally you will not be allowed to create a Goldrider or Greyrider from the start, you must Impress to one at a hatching (there is an exception where a transfer from another Weyr might be able to be made, but most will need to ‘try out’ for the position and it won’t usually be first come first serve). You will also be able to play either a Gold or Grey Wher or a Gold or Grey Firelizard (Wher OR Firelizard, NOT BOTH) but they must likewise be gained through Impressing in RP and you will not receive one until at least the rank of Weyrling (more likely after Wingrider rank). I will not give out high rank, clutching females to just anyone and certainly not to anyone who begs for one.
You may also only play two (2) metallics (Golds and Bronzes). So the options are 2 Golds, 2 Bronzes, or a Bronze and a Gold (Dragon, Wher, and/or Firelizard). And just because you CAN play two metallics doesn’t mean that you’ll get to. This is just saying that if you do get lucky enough to play two metallics, that’s all you get.
Blacks of every species are also limited. You will never be allowed to play more than three Blacks of any species, and never more than two Blacks of the same species. If you have two metallics of the same species then you will not be allowed to have a Black of that species (ex: you have a Gold and a Bronze Dragon, you will not be allowed to have a Black Dragon, but you can still have a Black Wher or Firelizard). If you have two metallics of ANY species, you will only be allowed to have two Blacks instead of three.
Browns, Burgundies, Blues, and Greens are (in theory) unlimited. There is no bar on how many you can play of any species, but DO try to even it out and keep with the population percentages. Don’t hog 10 Browns or Burgundies, throw in a little variety. If one color ever starts getting more numerous than the population percentage should allow I’ll have to put a temporary ban on that color until things even out, and that’s not fair if you’re sitting there with 10 Burgundies when someone else can’t even get one. Greens WILL be the most numerous color.
The White mutation only occurs in Dragons and Whites are rarer than even the Golden Queens. No one will EVER be allowed to make a Whiterider from the start; it MUST be Impressed in RP. Whites are a little more common in this AU due to the epidemic, but there will probably not be more than two Whiteriders allowed at a time and chances are the time between one White hatching and the next will be QUITE a while.
