Name: Cleissa (Cleise) Age: 18 turns Gender: female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Rank: Weyrling Family: Father: Cleff, Herdsman Mother: Leise, Midwife Siblings: 3 sisters, 2 brothers (all but is one sister is older then her)
Dragon: Green Angeth Pets: Kumbaker - Topaz Gemtail
Appearance: Tho some others might thing so, Cleise doesn't consider herself beautiful or even pretty. Thick dark hair, normally loose and all over the place in ringlets, never seems to be tamable in her mind. She thinks her freckles make her look funny, and is convinced her nose is too big for her face. Her eyes to her look spooky despite the face her mother thinks they are beautiful. Her build is a bit on the average side, only a little over five and half feet tall and around 130 lbs; she generally blends into the crowd unless you are look for her specifically.
Her dress is more practical then anything else. Light weight fabrics in blue, greens, or earthen colors, she doesn't like wearing too much black or white. She doesn't really like skirts and wears them when she has to and will normally try to find a way out of having to. She also has a preference for being barefoot and, sadly, has some nice little scars on her feet to prove it. Despite being a Drudge before being a Candidate, Cleise seems very much a borderline wild child.
Celeb Claim: Anna Katherine Popplewell .
Basic Personality: Sweet and kind, but with one hell of a stubborn streak. Loves being outdoors and loves meeting knew people.... most of all, she loves being in the kitchen. She enjoys making food for people, and loves it most when they love it too. She is a bit shy, not having much time to be a child when she was going up, she isn't totally sure how to interact with other children her age; still, that won't keep her from trying!
Strengths
- Brave; Fearless to a fault, she loves to climb up into high lofts and hideaways to read and daydream.
- Learned; she knows most of the basics, reading, writing, figuring. She's not as good as someone with a full education on the topics, but she's not a slough either.
- Mature; In many ways, Cleise is a mini-adult. Having always been tasked with choirs and jobs at home, she didn't have much of a childhood. She relates better with Adults rather then other teens.
- Cooking; she loves cooking - helping in the kitchen is one of her favor tasks. She will actually trade others chores so that she can spend more time in the kitchen.
- Gentle; sweet and helpful, its not sure if Cleise has a vengeful bone in her body. She'll help if she can, as long as she doesn't get in trouble.
Faults
- Shy; tho she is fine around adult, around others her age she tends to not know what to say and often simply avoids being seen.
- Imaginative; life as a Holderbrat is boring, and you need to find someway to pass the time. If only she was a little more grounded in reality and less in her fantasies...
- Low Self-stream; she isn't sure still that the Searchrider got the right person. Unless the Hatchling wants to know how to make pastries, she doesn't think she is going to be a very good rider.
- Withdrawn; Normally keeps to herself, unless someone works to draw her into something, or to ask her help.
- Overly Independent; No matter how much she might help others, she just doesn't ask for help. If she needs help, she shies away from asking others until she has no choices otherwise.
History: Cleissa was born within the walls of High Reaches Hold to Herdsman Cleff and his rather bovine looking wife, Midwife Leise, on a Midsummer Eve. One of nearly half dozen offspring the pair, she was quickly thrust into the mix of Holder Life as soon as she was old enough to be useful. It was the best way to keep idle hands from getting into trouble, but it left many without much chance to be a child. Bright and eager to learn, she was often in the Kitchen helping the others with the cooking - she had no urge to learn to deal with beasts like her father, and her stomach couldn't handle following in her mother's footprints as a Midwife. Despite the big dreams all children had, Cleissa was destined to be a cook.
Even told this, Cleissa ignored them all. Even when Scrubbing pots or washing floors, she used her imagination to escape the humdrum pulse of the Hold's life. She was a Prisoner of a Pirate gang, forced to work in their hideout till she could escape, or a Weyrwoman in disguise trying to find a spy in her Weyr's Kitchen... her mind weaving colorful, wild stories that she played out over and over in her day to day life. And thought most of her imaginative stories were harmless, one then once they got her in trouble - battling invisible, egg stealing spies in the Kitchen during Dish Duty with a wooden spoon and a pot lid is surprisingly frowned upon.
When she was just a little beyond fifteen turns, she found someone who shared her thirst for adventure and imagination when a family moved from Benden Hold to High Reaches. Their oldest Daughter, named Gelta, was alot like Cleissa and the two quickly became fast friends. More then once the pair were scolded for sword fighting with brooms or dancing when they were supposed to be doing chores. As time passed tho, the pair became more then friends- but the close bond of the pair was seen differently by others in the Hold. When it came to the attention of their families and the rumors about the pair of friends, they were quickly separated.
Gelta was sent back to Benden Hold when her Uncle arranged a nice marriage for her. Cleissa was devastated, withdrawing deeper into her imaginary world to escape the looks and words of those around her. She quickly returned to her dreams, her stories, and left the dull world of the Hold for her beloved fantasies. Even as her father worked to set up a nice match with a young man in the Hold she had become good friends with, she still refused to stay focused on the reality of her life.
Just days before the marking of her seventeenth turn, the Dragons came. Riders, searching for candidates for Eggs on the Sands. Cleissa couldn't tell you why she was picked that day; maybe because she had chattered the Greenrider's ears off over wanting to know what it was all like, maybe cause she didn't fear the emerald Dragon that had dominated the courtyard... or maybe she had just been lucky. She Jumped at the chance to stand on the sands; a chance to live out one of her many, many dreams - to be a Dragonrider.
And although she stood on the Sands the first time and no hatchling came to claim her, she was okay with that. Her family was happy for her, and she still have several years as a Candidate if it came to that - they returned to their lived in High Reaches Hold, back to the same old cycle of Holder life. Cleissa remained in the Weyr, living with those that didn't judge her for her past, only for her future, and waiting for the day that one of the Hatchlings would call her 'Mine.'
