Having shoved Zyika up to the barracks Salar quickly grabbed his gear and hit the common rooms speaking enthusiastically and loudly as he went. "Come on people look alive we are all going swimming!! Grab your things lets go lets go!" he laughed as he made anyone within ear shot look at him. "Lellen where are you? I know you are down for a bit of cold fun in the sun." Sweeping his hair through his mussed hair he looked around to see who looked like they might actually be willing to go with him. He knew it was a bit cool for a long swim but a quick one to get everyone together would be fun and a good way for them all to get to know each other a bit more before the hatching. They were all going to have to work together if they impressed they might as well get it together now.
"If you don't come I'll be convinced that you are holding something against me personally." here he winked and generally made it known he was fooling and just trying to get a laugh or two. Salar took it as his personal responsibility to get everyone in the mood and relaxed. They were all so focused and nervous about the hatching that it was starting to get to everyone. It would do them no good to stress out and the fights that were starting to break out were down right getting on his last nerve. They were acting like enraged tunnel cats. It was silly, they may be competition for a dragon but none of them had any real control over that so why treat each other badly? Salar knew it was his responsibility to keep things easy for the others till the hatching since he seemed to be one of the few not really on edge anymore. Those who are ahead should lead his father always said.
Looking around again Salar noticed a few pretty girls sitting about and thought highly of the gold and Grey's chances of finding a nice bond mate. It would be no hassle looks wise with any of these girls should he impress high and have to be with them during a mating flight. This was bit out of character for him to think but it made him grin a bit more rakishly as he wiggled his eyebrows at the nearest one. Now where was Zyika? She should have been out here by now. He knew it would be a bit inappropriate if he went back to look for her, so he thought he'd wait a bit longer and then send someone for her if she wasn't here in a few more minutes. The girl, above everyone else, seemed to need a bit of reassurance and guidance right now.

Sitting at one of the many couches in the Common Room of the Candidate Barracks, Filonna was startled out of her daydream by someone shouting not far from her. As she turned around, she noticed a young male shouting something about swimming and before she knew it, she was already moving toward the female sleeping area and over toward her cot. Grabbing a simple, dark tunic, and an old pair of breeches that were torn about the knee, she had her swimming attire, not really interested in wearing anything less for others eyes.
Slipping into her swimming attire, in private, she moved back out into the Common Room. A sudden wave of embarrassment passed over her as she realized, she didn't know the young man nor had she really asked if she could come. "Excuse me, is that invitation open to everyone?" she questioned, moving toward the young male that had started the commotion about swimming.
With the Hatching coming up so soon, it was a good thing for all the Candidates to be as relaxed as possible. Stress and high tension was normally easily dealt with, but the eggs on the Sands caused the Candidates to become irrational and it grated on nerves. Any excuse to relax was a good one at the moment.

Midnael looked up from his reading at the rather loud male candidate. Salar wasn't it? So they were going swimming now? He swam plenty back home cold or not so he was good at it but...
Fin nipped at him, and when he turned to look at her sitting on his shoulder, glared intensely at him. He was going, he would have fun, and that was final!
The boy sighed inwardly, "I guess I'm going." Why was the silly green so insistent that he involve himself with others? She never cared before. To a certain extent she almost seemed as if she hadn't wanted him near the others at his hold, so why was she acting all crazy here? Must be all the red meat she's getting spoiled with...
Pala chose that moment to get back from the infirmary, her hand wrapped in a bandage that had almost certainly not been there before. Looking her over he realized that she looked more than a little disheveled her tunic had a few areas that had been stained with blood, her hair was down now and a tangled mess, and the scarf she normally wore missing somewhere. She didn't seem concerned about anything in particular, just tired, and so Midnael didn't really think to worry about the blood, she was a healer after all, it came with the job. Also, by looking at her hand it could very well have been her own blood.
She stopped as she came into the room, looking around, "Ah... did I miss something...?"

Salar stared a bit at the gorgeous female standing next to him asking if it was an open invitation. He knew that most of the girls her this hatching were grade A lookers but jeez did they have to stand so close and be pretty? It was a big no no for guys to show any interest in girls till they were fully bonded and their dragons were adults. Mentally shaking himself he nodded pleasantly to her. "OF course you can come this is most assuredly an open invite to all, hence my loud obnoxious self." he bowed to her. "I'm glad at least one other female has decided to join, Zyika will be happy. I'm trying to get her out to relax the silly girl has been barricading herself in the kitchens when not doing candidate duty. I think it's about time all the candidates get out and do something not involving dragons for a bit. We are all starting to become a bit snarky like a queen in heat." he said this last bit a little quieter just in case someone would take it personally. He was getting the impression that this girl, Filonna if he remembered correctly, was a girl with a strong head on her shoulders.
Turning to the other guy and girl that had talked he smiled broadly and waved them over. "Glad to have you come guy...it's Midnael right? I've seen you about recently I think. And Pala right? Our resident healer? I couldn't forget you since you save our skins right? You didn't miss much I'm just asking if anyone wants a bit of a break and candidate bonding time down at the lake for a swim. It's a bit cool but it could be good for us all to get out. Relieve some stress and give us some new vitality. Wouldn't you say that was an admirable way to spend the day?" again he smiled this time a bit more seriously. He truly did want to help and if he could get the healer on his side he was more likely to get everyone else involved as well.

A’zael had given him a choice for the day’s chores. It was either the kitchens or the crèche for him. His mother worked in the kitchens and she tended to worry about his forgetfulness and lax nature a bit more than necessary. Also, the kitchens could be really hot and you had to you know… actually pay attention in there, or you might get hurt. He knew from experience since he’d burned himself on a number of occasions. Then there was the crèche… go play with some weyrbrats or work in the kitchens? Easy choice for Lellen.
So he’d gone to the crèche to help out and had entertained with some silly songs and come up with some fun adventures for everyone. He’d had to clean up a few… accidents on occasion which was not at all pleasant but the fun of the rest of his time there sort of made it alright. Children were fun, carefree… and they had come to know him over the Turns as it was a favorite place for Lellen when it came to chores, but sometimes others would take his place there before he could call it and he’d have to do something less favorable. Most of the crèchewomen seemed to like him… and not all of them were old aunties either. They said he had a way with the children, to which he always responded that it takes one to know one.
He could tell you one thing though the older weyrbrats played hard. He’d managed to wrench his shoulder this time and as he walked back to the Candidates Quarters he massaged it gently. He came in to his brother shouting about something… did he say swimming? Hm… warm bed or cold lake…? Actually the cold water would probably feel good on his shoulder… and a bunch of people were going? “I’m in!” He came up beside Salar and bumped into his side with a grin.

"You all won't be leaving without me," Rauget laughed, swinging his long legs out from his covers and standing up. He would love a good swim right now. It was a glowing idea, and one he was rather sad he'd not thought of himself.
Not really capable of holding himself back, the tall young man winked at Salar. "Suits on, then, handsome? Disappointing but I'll deal," he teased. The flirtation was more out of habit than not, though the man was a little young he was attractive and a twin to boot. However he'd always struck Rau as too interested in women to play with.
He figured himself to be a sort of familiar presence around the group, at least for those of them who'd been candidates before and thus knew him from previous turns. And though his heavy-handed flirtatious nature could scare the hold-bred and new candidates... well, he thought of himself as a pretty easy guy to get along with. After all he wasn't much of a threat for all that he was huge. And he liked helping people out with their chores, if he'd finished his own and if they weren't doing anything tedious or boring. Rau had always supposed the best way to spend your time as a candidate was to be as likeable as possible. That way, you didn't share close quarters with people who hated you.
It was pretty sound logic, if he did say so himself. Which he did.
Rau did, despite his teasing, dress as he was supposed to. He aligned himself so he stood by the girls, grinning with obvious glee. If he felt any bit awkward about his age or size, the young man certainly did not express a bit of it.
"This and a warm cup of Klah will make my day," he said. "We can all raid the kitchen after, yeah?"
And as long as they were talking about the kitchens... "And pies," he added dreamily. "Cold, wet, shivvering candidates cannot be denied some piping hot pies."

Zyika hadn't meant to take so long getting ready but she wanted to look a bit better then she did right now. Taking a brush to her hair she fixed it and changed into her swimming gear as quickly as she could. She no longer had all the flour all over her and she defiantly felt better. She sighed, maybe her brother would come with. That would be amazing for sure, only problem would be having Alyzin there.
She walked slowly into the common room and saw a lot of the other candidates deciding to join. Now that would be fun having everyone, especially since she hadn't really taken the time to get to know the new candidates. She just only knew the ones that had stood with her for many turns. Her eyes flickered around and stopped once she saw Alexander walk in with Alyzin on his shoulder. The burgandy firelizard hissed a little as he saw Zyika, but she just shrugged it off and walked to her bother.
"You are coming with all of us." She ordered. Her older brother looked at her with a slight tilt of his eyebrow. "Oh am I?" Crossing her arms she took the challenge. "Do you want me to force you?" Alyzin had moved from Alexander's shoulder to his head. "And if your pet bites me again I will lock him into a cage." Zyika added while looking at the firelizard waiting for it to move closer.
Alexander sighed knowing his sister would drag him along just because she thought he needed to get out more. He didn't really like being around people, but he would for his sister. Especially since it was swimming and he would have to keep a good eye on her since she wasn't a good swimming. Perhaps her and Alyzin will finally get along, it was just so hard to even be around his sister without the two going at eachother. Yes it was weird, his sister and a little firelizard arguing. "Okay, I will go. But only to make sure you don't drown." He looked up as if looking at the firelizard on top of his head, "And no arguing."

There were even more people showing up to go than Salar had expected, even his errant brother was willing to go. Bumping back into Lellen Salar smiled at him wickedly. "Going to flirt with all the pretties today brother mine?" He loved to tease Lellen seeing as he was one of the few people who could take the jokes and not have his pride get in the way. Besides Salar was never cruel he just teased lightly for a good laugh. "I'm glad so many of you are willing to go as well. It will be a great bit more fun with all of us doing it. Granted be prepared to be a bit chilled." Salar did another sweep of the room and saw Zyika and smiled as he waved her over. "Zyika over here! It was all because of you that I got the idea! Everyone meet my muse!" Salar couldn't help but grin wickedly again, it was about time everyone payed attention to the girl anyways. Smiling at Rau Salar waved him over as well. Salar knew him from Lellen's previous hatchings and thought he was a nice guy if a bit odd and flirtatious. In fact, Salar always thought that Lellen and Rauget were cut from the same cloth. "Hey Rauget, you know we couldn't have a swim debacle without you! And I agree pies and klah afterward I think my mother would be willing to supply us, and since Zyika and I made the pies you all can thank us." Salar was on a role today he just hoped no one took it the wrong way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Brete sat quietly for a bit while everyone else got excited about the little trip, how was she supposed to tell them she really didn't know how to swim? She could wade like anyone who used a bathing pool but she had never really had a chance to swim. Looking around she found the friendliest female face possible and made her way over. She figured she could ask her what she should wear and so forth so as to make an acquaintance who might notice if she starts to drown. Hearing the boy Salar call her Zyika, what an interesting name, Brete walked up and tapped her lightly on the shoulder. Pulling her long hair over one shoulder so her face was easier to see she looked at the other girls with large almond eyes and smiled nervously. "I know I'm new and you probably don't know me yet, but I'm Brete...and I was hoping you could tell me what one wears to swim? We didn't really...um...do that sort of thing at the Harper Hall. It sounds fun though and it is pretty much the only thing I've heard or seen everyone get together for....You're Zyika right? It's a lovely name." She smiled a bit brighter, she could be more comfortable talking names than her lack of knowledge in something. Brete smiled at the boy next to Zyika as well and gave him a quick study. She wondered if the two were related, they looked awfully similar.

Zyika smiled as her brother agreed to coming. She couldn’t help but stick a tongue out at the fire lizard as in saying she won. Alyzin hissed until Alexander glared at the two of them. Alexander couldn’t understand how a fire lizard and his sister could argue so much. Zyika smiled slightly till she heard her name being said. She blushed a beat red just wanting to hide behind Alexander. Alexander laughed slightly at her face just before she was going to pull her brother in front of her she felt a tap on her shoulder. She looked seeing a girl standing right next to her.
It took Zyika a second to realize that the girl was talking, well babbling to her. “Uhmm…Hi Brete.” Zyika looked down at herself and smiled slightly, “Well this would be what you would wear, and I have a few spares if you need something.” She added kindly then smiled, “Plus if you’re worried about drowning my big brother, Alexander will save you.” She nudged her brother who just rolled his eyes. “I will most likely be saving you the most.” He said roughly looking down at his sister. “She is a horrible swimmer.” He added to Brete with a slight nod.
Zyika sighed with a shake of her head. She studied Brete for a second realizing she has seen the girl before a few times eating in the kitchen. Feeling slightly bad for not taking the chance to get to know the girl before she sighed slightly. It wasn’t really her fault, Zyika was just always busy it felt like it. Her mind slowly began to wander to everything she felt she should be doing right now besides fun things. Alexander watched her knowing exactly what she was doing. He pushed her slightly to bring her back into the real world. “Anyways, you need something to borrow?” She asked Brete trying to make it look like she hadn’t zoned out.

Smiling warmly at Zyika and softly at Alexander she nodded when Zyika offered to lend her something. She only had the basics here right now though her mother was bringing her a dress for the celebration. All she knew is it was a dyed color and supposedly in a new fashion that the Hold girls were just starting to love, and it was her mother's very own creation for Brete. It had been over a year since Brete had gotten a new dress and her secret girl heart was looking forward to it more than she cared to admit. "I'd be so grateful if you would allow me to. I didn't bring much with me and won't have much till my mother shows up this week. As to being rescued...I'll try not to drown myself." she smiled sheepishly at Alexander. "Though I appreciate that there will be someone who knows what they are doing around in case. You know I thought you might be siblings you have a similar cast to your features....I find it charming the color contrast between you." she added sweetly.
"I've seen you in the kitchens haven't I? It's the safest place for me these days. I feel comfortable there, there are no...awkward situations...I don't get lost there." again she smiled brightly. "Do you mind if we go get those now. I'd love to go with everyone ...in case I get lost again. I don't want to wind up somewhere odd again. I must say this place is very large after all."
Turning to Alexander she felt a bit nervous, she wasn't one to initiate many conversations with men so it was odd for her. "Hope you don't mind me stealing her for just a moment....and thank you for letting me tag along. You're a good sport about it." Pulling her shiny dark hair back over one shoulder she looked at them both with deep brown eyes quizzically.

“It’s really no problem.” Zyika answered back. She really didn’t mind loaning out some of her clothes especially since she had extras of things. Her mother always made sure Zyika had extras cause she had always thought Zyika would maybe need them. Alexander shrugged like saying of course he knew what he was doing. He was use to always being there when his sister swam in case she began to drown, even though his sister has gotten to be a bit better swimming. He smirked slightly, “Sometimes I don’t even claim her as my sister.” This remark made him receive a punch from Zyika.
Zyika nodded for Brete to follow, “Well come on then.” Her eyes searched for Salar when she saw him she called out, “I’ll be back.” And with that she walked towards the girls’ rooms. Pausing just to make sure Brete was still behind her.
Alexander sighed as he watched the two girls leave. He wasn’t too sure how he got talked into this, but then again it was hard for him to say no to his little sister especially when she was almost all the family he had left. He looked at everyone who seemed to have decided to go with a slight frown. Alyzin began to chirp angrily as in asking why Alexander was going swimming with Zyika. Alex just ignored the little fire lizard and waited for the two girls to get back.
