Name: Mya
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Rank: Weyrling
Family: Mother: Marlianna (kitchen worker) Father: Syalvi (beastcrafter), sisters: Anya, Marissi, Katri (kitchen workers) brothers: Tad, Bari, Samar (beastcrafters) Matty (harper)
Dragon: Gold Stellath
Pets: Chief (Emerald Gemtail)
Appearance: static.tvguide.com/MediaBin/Galleries/Shows/S_Z/Sq_Sz/StargateSG1/crops/stargate-sg1-lexa-doig1.jpg[/img] Mya is barely average height, with a coltishly slim figure with very little in the way of feminine curves. With her seal-brown hair pulled back as it often is, she can occasionally be mistaken for young boy – much to her annoyance. Her delicate face with its high cheekbones and russet eyes is harder to mistake for a boy’s, though it certainly contributes to a bothersome youthful appearance. Her clothing is simple, loose enough to be comfortable, but not flowing enough to hinder decisive movement, and usually of very pale or white colors – perhaps counterintuitive for some considering her work, but it’s easier to simply bleach out bloodstains than it is to hide them. It’s all about efficiency.
Basic Personality: Mya is whole-heartedly fascinated by the medical profession. She may not like people, but she likes helping them, and she loves the challenge and the rush of treating them. The sight of blood doesn’t bother her in the least, so she found herself particularly suited to trauma injuries and emergency situations rather than anything requiring a better bedside manner. She’s good at keeping people calm – not so good at being nice to them.
Strengths (at least 5, preferably more, do not simply list them, but add a little description/example to go along with it)
Faults (at least 5, preferably more, do not simply list them, but add a little description/example to go along with it)
History: Mya was born the second youngest in a brood of children, all raised at Fort Hold. Her mother worked in the kitchen with the cooks, her father out in the fields with the herdbeasts. They were affectionate, but not particularly close. Their marriage was more one of convenience and expectation than it was of love, and their children were raised to see that as the norm. All of her older sisters had grown up to join their mother in the kitchens and her older brothers joined their father in the beastcraft, all marrying young and beginning broods of their own. Mya, born later in her parents’ lives when most of her other siblings were already adults, was ambitious from the start, though with little direction for it. She, who refused to be quiet and docile like her sisters and with her sharp mind and tongue, was a constant trial for her parents even as a toddler. Another brother was born a few years after her, and as the only children in the family they grew very close.
Matty, her brother, was much more of a dreamer than Mya though he shared the same ambitious nature. They were practically inseparable growing up. When Mya was eight and Matty five they’d been exploring some of the older caves when a cave-in occurred, trapping them both under the rubble. They weren’t even missed for several hours, and not rescued for another day. Matty was delirious and drifting in and out of consciousness for most of it, but Mya wasn’t. She knew that Matty was badly injured, and was herself finding breathing difficult. She shouted for help until she was hoarse, which was the only way that anyone would have found them at all. Finally, they were found and brought to the Healer’s hall there for treatment - Matty for a badly broken leg (to this day he has a faint limp) and Mya for the emotional trauma.
While staying at the Healer’s hall with her brother, Mya discovered an aptitude and interest in healing. Although she’d lived next to the hall her whole life, it was ultimately seeing them treating her brother’s injury – one that to her young eyes had seemed unfixable – that sparked her interest and ambition, and brought her to the attention of the healers.
When the time came that she was old enough to apprentice, her parents had little problem with sending her to the hall instead of the kitchens, though they didn’t really understand why she’d want to. After all, the hall was still at Fort. The same reasoning held when Matty was apprenticed to the Harper Hall.
Mya thrived as an apprentice. She loved being challenged with the schooling, was more than willing to do the necessary chores, and overall just absorbed what was going on there. She didn’t walk the tables any more quickly than any of the other apprentices, however, and in fact was a little slower at it than many. This was in many ways because of her stubborn, caustic nature, rather than incompetence. She finally walked the tables at the age of nineteen, with her first posting to be at Western Weyr under Master Jocene. To her surprise, her parents and siblings scraped together the funds to buy her a gift to celebrate – a little emerald gemtail whose parents have been imported from Western years before by one of the ranking harpers. Emeralds were, after all, known to be smart, and tough little fighters, perfect to give to a young woman who was going to a strange place far away. Mya couldn’t very well turn down the gift, who she named Chief.
The journey to Western Weyr by ship has been fairly uneventful, though Mya spent most of the journey above-decks since the cabins triggered the claustrophobia she’d had since the cave-in.
Impressed to Gold Stellath at Orlaith and Zevranth's clutch.

Strengths (at least 5, preferably more, do not simply list them, but add a little description/example to go along with it)
- Intelligent in general, Mya never shies away from learning something new – but only if she believes it has some use in her chosen field. For instance, she’s not likely to understand or care about musical theory or smithwork, and her handwriting’s atrocious, but she does pick up quickly on mathematical and scientific concepts due to her strong background in them.
- Mya has a very well-trained memory. She retains knowledge easily, and remembers much of her patients’ history. This doesn’t come naturally, though – she’s worked hard to train herself to manage this.
- Mya’s a hard worker. She’s willing to put in the effort to make sure things get done right, and she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty.
- Confident and competent: she knows what she’s doing, and she shows it. She allows no hesitation or self-doubt to factor into the equation when it comes to medicine or any other aspect of her life. She doesn’t have time to waste on that sort of thing.
- Efficient – Mya doesn’t believe in wasting time and energy. She does things right, the first time.
- Mya is ambitious, though not to the extreme some take it. She isn’t content with simply being, she wants to be more, the best. She couldn’t just settle down to work in the hold kitchens, have tons of children, like her mother and sisters.
Faults (at least 5, preferably more, do not simply list them, but add a little description/example to go along with it)
- Mya has very little patience with stupidity. If someone breaks their arm doing something they know they shouldn’t have done, she’s not going to be gentle with them – verbally or physically. She won’t go out of her way to hurt them, but she might dose them with something nasty tasting with less painkillers than she might use normally. And woe betide anyone who comes to her pretending to be sick or injured just to get out of work.
- Antisocial – she won’t go out of her way to avoid people, but neither does she seek them out. Socializing simply for the sake of socializing is a foreign concept to her, a frivolous and silly method of spending your free time. She doesn’t see the point of friends or lovers.
- Sardonic, sarcastic to the extreme, Mya isn’t the most pleasant of people to work with or be around. She’s got a sharp tongue, and is anything but sweetness and light.
- Tempermental: not necessarily one to get worked into a rage, Mya is nevertheless easy to irritate. If anyone’s looking to get a rise out of someone, Mya’s the person they’d have the most luck with. It’s not easy for her to be patient to begin with, and she’s not good at ignoring people. The little things bother her – if someone’s tapping a pencil she’ll probably be the first person to snap at them. Given her long memory, she also tends to hold grudges easily.
- Stubborn as anything, Mya can sometimes get caught in believing that her way is the only way. This often leads to her taking charge and making sure things get done, but even more often sets her at odds with people – she’s not good at compromise.
- Mya has struggled with claustrophobia since she was a child – a big problem for someone living in a cave-dwelling society. She’s gotten to the point that she can manage closed in spaces such as weyrs, and interior hold rooms, as long as they’re fairly large. She still has occasional panic attacks in small rooms, and nightmares.
