Name: Sherrill Age: 23 Turns Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Rank: Wherhandler Family: Father: Rillen - Brownrider; Igen Weyr Mother: Sherris - Greenrider; Igen Weyr Siblings: Plenty half blood and some full blood, actually count unknown Wher: Gold Rillsk Pets: None at present
Appearance: Sherrill is shorter in stature with dark, night black hair and hazel eyes the color of deep, rich redbrown clay. She looks a lot like her mother(which she hates) with an angelic, sort of chubby face splashed with cinnamon freckles and featuring lovely, full lips. Her skin is paler then one would expect; a fleshish ivory that marks her as not seeing much sun. Her pension to wear dark browns and blacks doesn’t help the pale aura she seems to garner. She isn’t skinny, but not fat either, Sherrill seems very average to the passing eye, maybe a little on the chunky side, but she carries it well. She only looks about half her real age, a fact that will serve her well as she ages.
Celeb Claim: Norah Jones
Basic Personality: Well adjusted and level headed even as a child, she is a friendly and kind hearted to most of those that she meets. She can be quite charming when she is trying to get her way, but it never goes to the point to being flirty. Though she is sweet natured but she has a fiery temper when pushed past her limits, she isn't above telling you exactly what she thinks if you get her to that point.
Strangely, she seems to have no real fear for dragons or Whers, but other humans is another story entirely. Slightly judgmental, Sherrill has always been open to making friends but cautious of more intimate relationships. She instantly expects men to want only one thing (like most did back home thinking she was like her mother), but she doesn't mind hanging out with them as long as they just want 'to be friends'. Strengths - Loyal Friend; For those that try, once her friendship is gained, Sherrill will never go back on it. Promises kept, secrets hidden; she is much like her Wher in remembering how people have treated her in the past, and she would never betray anyone that has given her their trust and she would expect the same from those she trusts.
- Trustable; Sherrill takes duties very seriously. She never asks of anyone anything she would not do herself and sometimes has problems delegating duties to others because she wants to make sure things are done properly. If you give something to her to be done, she will get it done to the best of her abilities, no matter what it takes.
- Protective; Of Whers and other Wherhandlers in particular, but her protective instincts can cover anyone that needs a shield. She is often drawn to candidates that don’t impress and does her best to help them get out the depression that follows walking off the sands alone.
- Skilled; Sewing, cleaning, cooking, crafting – you name it, she has some experience in it. A lot of spare time as a youngster started it, and years as a Wherhandler has honed it. You really can’t count too much for others to do things for you when you spend your lifetime with your ‘day’ as everyone else’s Night.
- Sixth Sense; Sherrill just seems to know when something is gonna go bad. Be it small things like a burned pie or big things like things killing the herdbeasts. Sometimes just a feeling, sometimes as dreams. (feel free to us it as a plot if you wish)
Faults- Hot Tempered; generally a nice person, if you manage to get under her skin, she’s a hothead. And she holds grudges.
- Dirty Fighter; Biting, pulling hair, shots aimed and sensitive areas; nothing is offlimits in a fight with Sherrill. She makes up for her small size with a ferocious nature that matches her Whers.
- Defensive; Sherrill feels she needs to defend her Wher and the species in general. Anyone that calls them ugly or dumb or so when she can hear them can be expecting a violent reaction. If you are lucky, she’ll only attack verbally.
- Borderline Prudish; almost stuck up, more she just is an ice queen. She will NOT be easy like her Greenrider mother, no matter how often it means she spends many nights alone.
- Nearly Nocturnal; comes from being a bonded to a night creature. She often misses out on the Weyr life around her that rolls by during the day.
History: Born of a mating flight between her parents dragons; though the Green her mother rode didn’t have the ability to clutch doesn’t mean the Dragonlust didn’t affect the riders the same way . As soon as she was weaned, like most babes born to Dragonrider pairings, she was handed off to the Crechewoman to be raised. She grew up with the basic dreams of most Weyrbrats – dreams of Dragons Eggs, Rider knots, and tales of Fighting falling Thread.
Sadly, her mother’s dragon was a notorious flirt and with the woman not much better, the effect of her mother’s behavior has a very negative effect on Sherrill as she grew up. She often got into fights with older boys over admiration that she often took as insults; she refused to be compared to what she believed to be her ‘slutty’ mother. Quick tempered, she was often the first to swing – even if it was for such a small thing as a badly timed compliment. She feared so much of bonding to a green like her mother, she made it very clear she never wanted to become a Candidate and told everyone so.
Thankfully, the Crechewoman had a decent alternative. With the Gold Wher of Igen clutching soon, the woman took it upon herself to try to school the girl in the topic of Whers. At first, Sherrill found them repulsive – but after getting to be near a few, with the aid of their handlers, she found them to be creatures of primitive but beautiful spirits. She found herself helping out as much as she could with them, even sleeping more during the day and staying up late at night to watch and draw the creatures.
It was no surprise to the other Wherhandlers or the Crechewoman that when the Clutch it the sands, she wanted to try to see if the Gold would let her have one. It was tense, and Sherrill would be the first to tell you she was frightened. Still, the elation was the result as she was allowed to crouch near them and claim her own Wher to be. She found herself reaching for the greenish egg, and then stopped – memories of her mother flooding forward. The Wher Queen cooed, nudging her hand from the green to rest on the smooth, hot surface of the shiny golden shell. Sherrill was shocked, but smiled and collected the egg with murmured thanks.
So Rillsk entered her life; the mother she never had, the child she had never needed. Someone that knew all her secrets and kept them with steely stone strong resolve. She felt finally that she had found a family she could be herself with the Wherhandlers, but still…. She wanted something more, to be totally out of the shadow her mother’s actions cast over her life. When the call came that Western needed Whers to deal with the wild felines plaguing their herdbeasts, Sherrill couldn’t say no. It was the best chance she had at a new beginning, even if it meant leaving everything she knew behind.
