((The eggs!: s95.photobucket.com/albums/l125/_Dark_Phoenix/Weyr%20Stuff/Western%20Glider%20Clutch1/ )) Pala was, once again, attempting to find the time to eat. She had woken up early as usual, but had been directed by Kumath to the dining hall instead of her usual routine of going by the infirmary. She was going to get fat at this rate... She fixed a plate of various fruits and a glass of water, she'd never really needed klah to wake up in the mornings, and found that Kumath had already secured one of the tables near a hearth. The tables had moved back from this one to make room for a sandy area that had been made up to warm the eight glider eggs donated by that girl Crescent Cove Weyr. To Kumath the extra space just meant more room to lay down near the hearth without a table in the way, though he did seem to be watching the eggs rather intently. Pala sat down, turning her chair so she could examine the eggs more closely, she really hadn't had the chance to up until now with all the interest in them. They seemed to be more clearly marked than dragon eggs, even the lower ranking eggs had fairly distinct markings, although it was a bit harder to tell the ground and flame ones apart. She sat there, munching on an apple slice and observing the eggs. When she stopped to take a drink of water she realized that she could hear a faint cracking sound. Slowly she lowered the glass, peering at the eggs. The crackled one was rocking! Kumath seemed rather pleased as he announced to the dragons of the Weyr, The tiny eggs in the Dining Cavern hatch, if your riders are interested let them know. There, he'd let the dragons sort out the decision to wake their riders or not.

Zyika groaned as she felt a small green dragon pounce on top of her. "Now what!" She said really not wanting to get up since she barely got any sleep anymore. Burgundy Kumath has informed me of tiny eggs hatching! I want to go see! Please please please, Mine? Pleeeeaaaseeee. The Green practically begged as trying to get the blankets of Zyika. Groaning slightly Zyika got up and sighed. "Okay, if you'll actually let me sleep tomorrow." Imanith pranced around happily, she was most defiantly excited and really wanted to go. Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! I can't wait! I don't want to miss anything!
Yawning Zyika made herself presentable and was half pushed down the hall by Imanith. "Okay, okay, relax I'm sure they will not hatch without you there." Zyika laughed slightly, the Green slowed down a little, but it was still obvious she wanted to get there soon. Her tail was wagging behind her as if she was a little puppy.
Once in the dining hall Imanith bounded over to where Kumath was watching the eggs. The Green laid down and watched intently. Zyika sighed and shook her head, "Sorry she really wanted to come." She told Pala with a slight shrug.

K’nar had been up at his usual time before dawn, leaving his dragon to slumber a bit longer while he went to have breakfast. He treasured the times he could just be alone, not that he didn’t love Rudoth to distraction, but one needed a little time by oneself every now and again.
He had checked the little eggs on the hearth, seeing that they were near hatching before having his morning meal. He was one of the early risers and had finished when Rudoth woke up. Going back to give the little dragon its bath and oiling took up most of the time before it was time to feed the bottomless pit.
He was almost done with the oiling when Rudoth looked over in the direction of the dining cavern. Kumath says those little eggs are hatching. Can we go see? Please? As much as he loved the attention, he was as curious about the little eggs as K’nar was.
“Sure, let me just finish this last patch. I’m sure there is enough time for me to go and change before they all hatch. I can’t run around in these ratty clothes.” He applied oil to the last patch as he spoke and then went to his locker to get clean clothes. Bathing Rudoth wasn’t that much of an issue anymore and he wasn’t soaked to the skin like the first few times. He changed and then Rudoth led the way to the dining cavern.
He saw Pala and Zyika already by the hearth and he walked over to join them. “Morning, ladies,” he greeted them while Rudoth went over to his clutchmates.

Pala smiled at Zyika as she approached, she had fetched a bowl of fruit while waiting for the others and was now eating an apple as she watched the eggs, "Why are you apologizing? People were supposed to come! It's the first Glider Hatching here! Think of all the things we can learn..."
She pointed to the Storm egg as K'nar approached, "Morning! That one's been rocking for a bit now, I think it's cracking too but it's so hard to tell with those markings... Then that one..." she pointed at the Flame egg lightly marked with a bit of orange, "Just started rocking...."
The egg with cream smudge on it started to rock a bit as well and Pala gasped in delight, this was obviously a field day for the girl. She looked around briefly, "There should be more people here... I don't know what will happen to them if they don't Impress, Western isn't really the proper climate for them to live in the wild. But then... they do have fur, maybe they'd be okay..."

"What might be okay?" V'ktor couldn't help overhearing, the brown hatching peering curiously around his bonded at the others. He recognized the trio, more so now that he actually was trying to blend in with the Weyrlings' group rather then how he had held himself apart from them as a Candidate. Stepping up to join them, he peered at the direction Pala had pointed.
'What are they?' Shamath was gentle as he tilted his head, turning a interested eye on the little eggs. V'ktor shrugged; they didn't looked right to be Firelizard eggs, and he didn't think that the ... oh, what were they called.... Cleissa had one- oh, Gemtails! He didn't think they were breeding just yet. The furry little monsters were so loud, he was pretty sure that most of the Weyr would know if they were breeding.
"What are they Pala?" V'ktor felt sorta dumb asking, but... well, dumb he might seems, best to get the answer. Plus, Shamath seemed set on staying to watch, so it looked like the pair were gonna join the show. Watching the little eggs shutter and shake, V'ktor couldn't help the want to see what sort of creature was going to pop out of the strange colored eggs.

"You'll see, now shh!" Pala was too caught up in her inspection of the eggs to really answer V'ktor. There were now some definite chips falling away from the Storm egg.
Kumath huffed and spoke to Shamath, Tell Yours not to feel bad, Mine gets like this when she's caught up in something. She calls them Gliders, some girl from another Weyr brought them and they like fruit.
The dark purple egg covered in speckles that made it look like the night sky in miniature had not been moving at all previously. But as if it didn't want it's crackled brother to hatch before it, a tiny paw suddenly shot out of it, and a tiny furred thing with a hide belly rolled out. Black fur tumbled over black hide until it came to rest a few rolls away, shaking it's head and stretching out it's limbs. It looked up, eyes glowing red at those around it. It stood, wobbling a bit from the exhaustion of hatching. It looked up at V'ktor, chirping a bit angrily.
A random piece of fruit was shoved in V'ktor's hands by Pala who was now looking at him, "Like this," she took a bite out of her own apple to remove a smaller, easier to eat, section, "Give it to him," she popped her own into her mouth again before the tiny dark thing noticed it.
((note, once V'ktor can see him more clearly the night glider's patch of hide on his forehead is dark blue unlike the black hide on his belly.))

Zyika nodded her morning back to K’nar. Her eyes looked back at the eggs curious to what they really were. Imanith seemed very happy to be there and as more dragons showed up she was even more happier. Although surprisingly she was quiet and watching the eggs very intently as if they were going to do a few neat tricks or something.
Zyika shrugged slightly to the girl’s question. Really she wasn’t sure why she was apologizing. She was use to it she guessed, “Well I guess this will be fun, perhaps?” She asked slightly unsure really what a glider even looked like. V’ktor’s voice made Zyika look back. Sure enough there he was with his brown. She smiled slightly a hello before turning her attention back to the eggs. Zyika herself was curious what was to come.
She held a breath in as one egg seemed to be hatching, but instead the other egg hatched before it. They’re pretty. Imanith said clearly to the whole room, the Green looked back at Zyika for a second before turning her attention back to the eggs. Mine, I want one! Zyika only nodded an agreement with her dragon, she smiled as the little new born Glider chirped angrily at V’ktor. It looked as V’ktor was the first to bond of these new little creatures.

V'ktor blinked at Pala, wondering for a moment if he had done something wrong. He simply had been wondering what all the fuss was about, not wanting to step on anyone's toes. Shamath stepped back a little and pressed against his leg, the brown's voice flooding his mind. 'Kumath said not to feel back, his is just caught up in the hatching. And he said they are called Gliders, they came from another Weyr.' V'ktor nodded, hand dropping to rub the ridges of the Brown's eyes. Gliders? Was that like a firelizard? Or like the snake things?
Still, curiosity peeked, V'ktor couldn't leave. 'Imanith's is smiling at you.' V'ktor looked up at Shamath's prompt, eyes glancing to the others; Zyika's slight smile got one in return - V'ktor stepped to drop back, to move around to stand next to her when the little purple egg fractured. The little thing that rolled out was not like anything he had ever seen, all black fuzz and big eyes. He was started as it made a noise, V'ktor almost expecting the upset little thing to attack up.
The fruit Pala thrust at him was almost fumbled, V'ktor worried that if he took his eyes of the little black blue 'monster' it would go for his throat. Shamath, on the other hand, was instantly enamored. 'It is cute, Mine. Can we keep it?' V'ktor wasn't sure, but the look on Pala's face gave him no real escape.
"O-okay, I guess." The boy stammered a little as he mimicked the action, biting a smaller chuck from the apple in his grip. Popping it out of his mouth, he looked at the little black. The little Glider's eyes seemed focused on it, V'ktor found a soft smile surfacing. Holding it between two fingers, he offered it to the little creature. Shamath's tail flicked back and forth as the Brown shifted from one for to another. 'Can we keep it Mine, Please? See, it likes you too, please? Please?'

The tiny night glider was no bigger than V'ktor's thumb, but snatched the piece of fruit with the ferocity of an angry Gold. It chewed the fruit, rotating it every so often for a fresh section. It looked back up at V'ktor eyes shifting through colors as it sent feelings of love and hunger to the Brownrider. Night Glider Hatchling:This little guy is pure black in both hide and fur, with the exception of the hide patch on his forehead which is dark dark blue. He's slim like most night gliders but seems to be particularly ferocious for a color that usually relies on sneak and stealth. If he were a ninja he'd be an assassin. He seems to love to be first in what he does, and delights in getting the drop on someone. Good luck. (you can pick him up from here, sorry no pictures) Pala smiled, "Interesting..." she seemed to be storing the events away in her mind to review later, "Aggressive little thing isn't he?" She nodded to the glider who seemed utterly disinterested in anything but V'ktor and his food. As she watched, the moon egg start to quiver. There was now a definite crack in the less vivid flame egg, and the fat ground egg marked with cream seemed to be taking a break. But then the beautiful crackled storm egg seemed to crumble around it's contents. From within a dark gray critter firmly planted it's paws in the sand before it creating small, but deep indents in the sand. It looked up at those gathered around, showing the deep, dark purple hide on it's forehead. A bit of the same purple could also be seen from the side on it's belly. It stood, none of the quivering of his clutchmate, and walked right up to K'nar, eyes glowing red with hunger. It's expression seemed to say 'either feed me or move'. Being so close, a slight lightening of the storm's fur on the tips of it's ears and tail could be seen. Although it was too young to tell for sure, it looked as if they would be white as his fur grew in more.

Mine… mine? Kumath says the little eggs are hatching… do you think something scary will come out? Mine, what if they are scary?
“Mmmmmf… Elvy….” L’en opened an eye in a squint in her direction.
Do you think they will be, mine?
L’en didn’t even really know what she was talking about in his sleep induced stupor, “Huh…?”
Those little eggs where you go to eat. What will come out of them? Will they be scary things?
“Eggs…?” He was so confused. Lying on his belly, he reached up to rub some of the sleep from his eyes and blinked blearily at his Green, “What eggs…?”
Elvith huffed at him, The ones that are hatching, mine!
Momentarily confused in his less than wakeful state, he leapt from his bed, “The eggs are hatching!? Where’s my robe?” He searched about for a few moments before stopping abruptly and blinking a few times, then turning to look back at Elvith, who was staring at him with confusion and perhaps a little fear.
Mine… are you sick? Should I call for help?
He broke out laughing at himself, forgetting anyone else who might still be sleeping around him, “No, no, Elvy… I was just… confused.” He laughed again and reached over to scratch her eye ridges affectionately. He thought for a moment. Eggs… eggs were hatching… in the dining cavern…? Oh, those eggs that some visitor had given to the Weyr, he supposed. There had been talk amongst many of the weyrfolk about them, but he wasn’t entirely sure what was inside. Some new creature from another Weyr.
“C’mon, Elvy, let’s go see what these things hatch out like, mm? I wanna see what kinda creatures they are,” he threw on a few random pieces of clothing and placed his hand on top of Elvith’s head, guiding her away and toward the dining cavern.
But, mine! What if they are scary and mean?
“Oh, Elvy… they’re tiny little eggs, no way they’re going to be able to hurt you even they wanted to….”
They will want to hurt me!?
He snorted a laugh, “Of course not, silly thing.”
They came to the dining cavern soon enough and he made his way over to where some of the others had gathered to watch the spectacle, seeing that two of the creatures had already hatched out. He couldn’t help but chuckle. “They’re really cute, huh?” he said aloud to no one in particular.
Elvith lifted her head to peer at them from beside hers and suddenly wasn’t afraid anymore. Hers was right, they were really cute. What are they mine? Can we have one? They look soft… I like soft things!
L’en grinned down at her and gave her a scratch, “I dunno... maybe….” He was rather enamored with the new critters and didn’t pay much mind to the others gathered around.

K’nar watched as the eggs started to hatch, completely bemused by the little creature that emerged and bonded to V’ktor. He was even more surprised with the next one got out of his shell and ready for anything in one swift movement.
He almost missed the fact that the little dark grey creature was staring right at him with a feed me right now expression on its face and he immediately copied the instructions that Pala had given regarding how to go about feeding the gliders. “Is this right?” he asked as he gave the little creature the piece of fruit and then had to be really fast at keeping it up so his new little friend could get over its hatching hunger.
As he fed the glider, he looked closely at it and was entranced by the subtle coloring of its fur, the tips whitening on the dark grey hairs and the dark, almost black, purple hide that was showing on his forehead and underbelly.
“Now, what will I call you?” he asked as he kept feeding the glider.
Rudoth came over to look at the little creature, quite curious at what it was. Is this a snack? he asked, causing K'nar to nearly choke on a piece of fruit before recovering and handing the nibble over to the glider.
"No! It's not a snack," he said to his dragon. "It's a glider from one of the other places on Pern and its probably going to be one of our friends from now on."
Oh, ok. But you won't love it more than me, right? The little blue's need for affection and to be the centre of K'nar's attention was very obvious.
"No, you silly dragon. You'll always be my friend and I'll always love you. Now, what are we going to call him?"
Nibble?

The storm glider took the food, taking huge bites out of the fruit, much bigger than his sibling. He also seemed to be clutching the fruit with a strong death grip as if someone was going to try and take it from him. Like his brother, his eyes were now shifting colors. Storm Glider Hatchling:Slightly bigger than his night glider brother, this little guy is strong. He seems fairly calm, willing to take his time to do things right. He could easily be underestimated, but that wouldn't be wise. He has dark gray fur which will show white tips on his ears and tail as he gets older. His hide is dark purple throughout. Back on the sands the skinny flame glider egg had tipped on it's side, rolling off of it's little mound of sand towards L'en, bits of the shell falling away until a dark gray glider with a black stripe down his back stumbled out as if drunk. He fell over on his back, orange belly showing as his gaze focused up on L'en, eyes red with hunger. His forehead patch was also orange and the tips of his ears were black.

L’en tilted his head curiously as he watched K’nar bite off a chunk of fruit and feed it to one of the little creatures. Interesting… so they were bonded like firelizards were they? Except… these didn’t eat meat, he supposed.
Elvith was being surprisingly bold and reached her nose forward to get a closer look at the little creatures but L’en placed a gentle hand on her head to pause her, “You don’t want to scare them or anything.” He stroked one headnob lovingly and turned back to watch the hatching.
One of the eggs rolled toward him, breaking open to finally reveal one of the little critters, gazing up at him in what he recognized from Elvith’s own hatching as that red ‘I’m starving feed me now’ look.
Mine! Is it okay? Help it!
With a little jump he grabbed for a piece of fruit and bit off a little chunk like he’d seen K’nar do. He then held it out above the Glider’s belly where it still laid in the sand, “Here ya go lil guy.”

Zyika smiled even more as she watched the small furry thing impress to V'ktor. It was so cute that Zyika just wanted to cuddle with one. Imanith was bouncing all over claiming how much she wanted one now. The green couldn't seem to settle down until Zyika gave her a look. Imanith looked at her bonded with sad looking eyes. Please please please, can we have one!!! They are SOOOO CUTE!! I want a furry thing!! Zyika laughed slightly as her dragon spoke.
We shall see. Zyika said to her dragon who was wagging it's tail as if it were a puppy. They're so cute and furry! Imanith told Shamath as she bounded towards V'ktor to look at one closer. As more began to hatch they were all so different, but why? Zyika didn't know much about the gliders and wondered how much they were like the gemtails and firelizards. It was obvious they all had a different personality and most defiantly were very interesting. She couldn't help but wonder what each of their colors meant?

The skinny flame glider snatched the fruit lightning fast. He didn't even bother to roll over as he practically inhaled the food at a pace which should have made him choke, especially upside down like that. He licked the juices from his paws before rolling back over, his eyes now shining like his siblings as he reached for another piece rather insistently, although who knows where he was going to put it all. Orange-hide Flame GliderThis little guy is significantly leaner than all of his siblings, even by flame glider standards. If someone didn't know any better they might even say he was being starved. His tail is a good bit longer than his siblings as well, and will likely be a good inch longer than average once he's done growing. He has dark gray fur with a black stripe down his back, as well as black tips on his ears. His hide is pure orange with no other colors. Like most flame gliders he is quick as a flash, although he seems even faster somehow. He is constantly eating but never gets fat, the theory being that he burns through his food rather quickly when doing anything. He's a little clumsy so it would be a good idea to keep an eye on him. If he ever catches a female it will be in the first bit of the chase, any longer than that and he'll probably quit for food. The moon glider egg tipped over as the top cracked open and a small white hatchling with black tips on her ears and a single black ring around the end of her tail scurried out, her egg mostly still intact. The hide on her forehead was a medium gray color that seemed to shine in the firelight. She looked herself over, not really happy about the state of her fur after being in that egg. She tried to smooth it out to no avail, so sticky! Looking around she spotted the two girls there unoccupied by her siblings, she peered at the lighter haired girl only a moment before she caught the scent of infirmary on her. Of course she didn't know what an infirmary was, but she didn't like the smell of it, she looked at the darker haired girl instead. She took a few steps towards her, sniffing experimentally. Minor scents, nothing very prevalent. She made her way over to the girl and sat down as if expecting something.
