Sh'mal stared out across the ocean. From his height atop Ligeth, he could barely make out the Northern Continent. Something about its nearness calmed him down from his state of frustration. Ligeth's wings flapped lazily, not doing much besides keeping him aloft. His great blue head swung around, and his whirling yellow eyes betraying his concern. Mine, now that we have arrived at the middle of nowhere, perhaps you could share what's bothering you? Sh'mal nodded and spoke aloud, "It's him, of course." Meaning M'kal. The blackrider who happened to look like a dream. Who he could never be with. Ligeth snorted. You know he'll never like you as you like him; why bother? Remember that when you think of him, and you'll get over it soon enough. Besides, he spoke, his eyes turning greenish, There are plenty of green riders that I'm sure you'll love to meet. Sh'mal smiled in agreement. "Yeah. It's just hard to ignore when I'm alone in the bathing area with him. Or drilling together. And it doesn't help that he's so sharding friendly. Sometimes its just so easy to forget that he's..." Not your type, Ligeth supplied. Now are you better? Or should we just wait until whoever that is back there comes to get you? "What?" Sh'mal turned and, sure enough, saw the shape of a dragon and rider rising to meet them.

Garrett was tired of flight drills, firestone practice – which he didn’t have to do in the first place, he had to carry that dratted bulky tank on his back –and all the other things that goes with getting the Weyr in fighting trim. The moment it was over, he directed Iroth to take them on a long and winding route out North from Western.
He spotted a dot far away and slowly it resolved into a dragon hovering. It is Ligeth and Sh’mal, Iroth told him.
I wonder what they are doing out here? he mused. Take us closer, dearest. The big grey dragon closed the distance between them and soon she was taking up position next to the blue dragon. He waved over at Sh’mal, a grin on his face. It was difficult to have a conversation while in flight, a problem Garrett had been lamenting for a long time. It would have been so much easier if humans were telepathic with each other as well as their dragons.
“HEY THERE!” he shouted across the distance. “Am I disturbing your peace?” he continued, hoping his voice doesn’t get lost in the intervening distance.

Hey there! Ah, your interest's mate. Another point to remember. Ligeth turned his mindvoice towards Iroth. And how are you and Yours this fine day, Iroth? Sh'mal ignored his dragon and replied loudly across the wind, "Not at all! We were just about to head back!" He paused, trying to think of a topic besides M'tal. "How are the new weyrlings shaping up?" It was a normal enough question, and one that might help him get his mind off of things. He is male, yes? And though Iroth is not swift and agile as the lovely greens, she is still acceptable. Sabath may have to watch himself next Chase. Ligeth! Sh'mal thought at the blue, You know that Sabath won't give up. And Iroth isn't likely to let him. Then I guess you'll just have to meet the riders of these wonderful green dragons I've been getting to know. Ligeth responded, his mindvoice teasing.

Me and Mine are well, and you Ligeth? Is Yours avoiding others out here or are you just enjoying the day? Iroth asked with idle curiosity.
“Oh, alright!” Garrett called back. “I was going to get something hot to eat and drink, want to join me?” This was really the most inefficient way of communicating, but it was all they had. “I’ll tell you about the weyrlings when I don’t have to yell my lungs out!” he shouted. “See you back at the Weyr?” His invitation made him think of the conversation he had with Akri not long ago. He was always chatting to someone over a mug of klah or a meal of some sort.
At this rate I’ll get fat and then Syrani will be most upset with me, he remarked to Iroth.
She likes you too much for that to happen, but she looks at you with something else in mind sometimes.
What?! he all but yelled. Really? How do you… of course you would know, he grumbled. He shifted a little on his perch while waiting for Sh’mal’s answer.

Mine is thinking like a wherry. He worries about things that mean little, Ligeth responded. However, he is Mine, so I help him when he is too arrogant to ask for it.
Sh'mal blinked. This said meal could get awkward fast..."Sure thing!" he yelled back across the distance. It would be rude to refuse... And his form is appealing to you, Mine? Stuff it. Ligeth rumbled briefly, but did not reply. Sometimes his dragon could be so insufferable... Let's go, you big blue flirt. I bet you wouldn't mind sharing the skies with Iroth either. He said nothing, but the picture Sh'mal recieved said enough. Ligeth wheeled in midair and, bowing his head respectfully to Iroth, began flying back to the Weyr.

Iroth rumbled with amusement. I have to agree with you, Mine does that as well, worry about things that mean little. They are a matched pair in that respect it seems.
Garrett knew the two dragons were talking, he only could tell when he was near Iroth. What are you two gossiping about? he asked.
The two of you, of course.
He waited for something more but she wasn’t forthcoming with information on that regard and baiting or asking would be pointless.
Say nice things about me, he teased. “Good! I’ll see you on the ground then,” he called back so Sh’mal. Iroth wheeled on a wingtip and headed back to the weyr. Sometimes it was nice just to fly for the sake of flying. Going between had its uses, but he didn’t want to be chilled to the bone when he was cold enough already. He started going over the various weyrlings in his mind. He didn’t know them all that well yet, but that would change in the Turns to come.

Ligeth's blue wings snapped into his sides as he went into his dive. Ignoring his rider's silent protests, he shot towards the water. As he neared the flat, blue sea, he snapped his wings open and coasted along, just barely letting the sea mist his underbelly. He didn't want to get wet after all, just cooled off. By the First Egg, why did you do that, Ligeth? Sh'mal "shouted." We were in no danger, Mine. I simply wanted to clean the sweat off of myself. Since you were in such a hurry to come to the middle of nowhere without even considering Between, I haven't had a chance to clean myself off yet. If you don't remember, you haven't oiled me yet today, Ligeth replied matter-of-factly. His could act so curiously sometimes. It wasn't even all that steep a dive. Now, if there had been a beautiful green around, he could have done a much cleaner, steeper dive.
Sh'mal's hands slowly loosened their death grip around the riding straps. Well, thanks for giving me a heart attack as well. Now that the experience was over, he had to admit that it wasn't all that bad a dive, just unexpected. He was convinced that Ligeth was being a show off like he always was. Great, now everyone's going to think you're insane. Aren't I?
(OOC: Should we move this to the Weyr, or what?)

Garrett watched with amusement as Ligeth suddenly dove for the sea, snapping out of the dive not far above the water. Now I wonder if he is trying to show off, Garrett mused to Iroth.
Probably. They all want to show off to me, she replied with no false modesty. Garrett laughed long and loud. Let’s join them, dear. But you can take a more sedate descent if you want to. His tone did dare her to drop down to Ligeth and Sh’mal’s level as fast as she could. He could feel her take up the dare and suddenly the world dropped from under him as she turned over and dove straight down. He grabbed onto the riding straps for dear life and leaned back into the dive.
Garrett screamed all the way down as Iroth did a barrel roll before straightening out over the water, her wingtips just touching as she flew along towards the Weyr. His scream had turned to laughter as they sped across the waters. Oh, shards! I’ve forgotten how exhilarating that is. But I’ll live longer if we don’t do that too often, my love.
I do enjoy it, but every now and again is good enough for me too. Iroth turned her massive head to look over at Ligeth. We will meet you at the Bowl, she said.
(OOC: We can end it here and start another thread in the Weyr, or we can just continue it here. It doesn't really matter either way.)
