Firelizards are like tiny dragons with only three claws on both the front and back legs. Like dragons, their eyes are faceted and change color with mood. They are also significantly less intelligent than dragons and can only communicate telepathically with pictures and feelings rather than actual words. The range of sounds they make is similar to that of dragons. They can go between like dragons, chew firestone and flame (even Golds and Greys without becoming infertile). Their hides require oiling like those of dragons. They come in the same colors as Dragons (except for white) and were affected similarly by the epidemic at the end of the 9th Pass.
The size difference between the colors isn’t quite as vast as that of dragons and unlike dragons, Green Firelizards are able to clutch and Golds can be caught even by Blues (though this is rare). The time it takes for the eggs to be laid after mating and for them to hatch after being laid is about half what it is for dragons, one and a half months from mating to laying and two and a half weeks until hatching. They are playful and clever creatures and most enjoy music. Unlike dragons, they do not Impress to people for any special, unknown reason, but simply to the first one that offers them food.

Note that Greens do not normally make very good mothers and often forget where they’ve laid their clutch, so most Green clutches don’t survive to hatching (especially in the wild). Most of the time, if you have a character that has a Green Firelizard, it will be assumed that she went off to lay them somewhere and forgot and one or two might be found by random people. Every so often you will be allowed to have her clutch somewhere that your character can find the eggs and make sure nothing eats them or nothing else bad happens to them and the whole clutch will survive, but this will be rare as we don’t want Firelizards to become too common, they would lose their specialness then X3
Any character with a clutching Firelizard is required to give half the clutch to the Weyrwoman to distribute in lottery, the rest they can give to friends or keep for themselves (if they do not already have the limit for how many Firelizards a single character can have at a time.) They are welcome to give more than half, or whole clutches to the Weyrwoman to distribute if they don’t know what to do with the rest. If you have a Firelizard that you’d like to run a clutch for, you must have a Flight for them first to determine what color will sire the eggs, then I will tell you how many eggs your female will lay and what colors they will be.
You are then free to make up personalities for them all if you wish, or you can just leave that for whoever Impresses them to figure out. If you wish to detail the personalities for the whole clutch (even the half that will be given to the Weyrwoman) then PM me with the descriptions of them all so I know what personalities to give out to people who Impress from the Weyrwoman’s half. If you wish to only write personalities for the half you’ll be allowed to keep then tell me right away and I’ll randomly determine the colors that will hatch from your eggs and from the Weyrwoman’s separately.
The maximum number of Firelizards your characters are allowed to have is determined by your Site Rank.

Here you can find a record of all the Firelizards, wild or owned, at Western. If owned, the owner of the Firelizard will be listed beside them, if wild it will simply say wild instead.
